Does Java fern grow faster in salt water or fresh?

The use of term salt water is ambiguous . How salty is that salt water ? Java fern tolerates BRACKISH WATER . It will not grow in sea water if that is what you mean.

Kindly read the matter on the link below ==

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/BrackishSubWe...

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/PlantedTksSub...

The problem of dehydration caused by osmosis means that the variety of plants that can adapt to brackish water conditions is somewhat limited.

Generally, plants with tough, waxy leaves

such as Java fern, vallis and sagitaria do best.

Other factors in some brackish water aquaria can also be detrimental to the cultivation of healthy plants.

As mentioned earlier, most brackish water species prefer water movement ... typically, however, plants do not.

Many brackish water fish species commonly kept in aquaria are, to a greater or lesser degree, herbivorous and can do untold damage to a well-planted tank.

http://www.iowas.co.uk/Brackish.html

http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/ah_main/d...

The statement in the link below that java fern " Can live in brackish water" clearly indicates that Java fern is salt tolerant and not salt lover ,

Kindly click on the link below and read ' environment specifics ' therein ====

Does Java fern grow faster in salt water or fresh?
There are different varieties of Microsorum pteropus,a freshwater plant and from var 'Philippine' only is reported:

An interesting bit from Tropica.com: "It is tolerant of salt, and originated from the island of Panay in the Philippines, where it grows right out in the tidal river mouth and thrives both below and above water." (http://www.thegreenaquarium.com/articles...

And another publication says: "Microsorum is more salt tolerant than many plants, and is often collected from brackish water areas." (http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/ah_main/d...

So it tolerates salt but should grow faster in its natural freshwater environment.

How does the gametophyte of a pine compare with the gametophyte of a fern as to size, complexity and nutrition

GAMETOPHYTE OF FERN=

1) Physically and nutritionally indepedent of the sporophyte.

2 ) It is large and can be seen with naked eye.

3 ) It is bisexual .

GAMETOPHYTE OF PINE

1 ) It is within the sporophyte and physically attached to it.

It is nutritionally dependent on the sporophyte .

2 ) It is small and microscopic .

3 ) It is unisexual ( The Male is within the pollen grain and the female is within the ovule .

Can Fern-C non acidic Vitamin C eliminates bad cholesterol?

Vitamin C in any form is not going to eliminate cholesterol, good, bad or in-between.

I am so let down by Fern Britton's lies that I've been crying non stop since I found out. What are your views?

For those lucky few who are blissfully unaware of the facts.....she has lost some weight recently and put it down to exercise and eating less ( I watched her speak about it on This Morning)

It has now been revealed she had surgery......I am devastated.

She has let us all down but more importantly she has let herself down.

I am so let down by Fern Britton's lies that I've been crying non stop since I found out. What are your views?
I didn't cry, but all I thought was "cheeky cow" because she knows how many people look up to her, and to find out that she's been lying all along makes me quite annoyed.

She probably doesn't even eat Ryvita.
Reply:its anne diamond all over again...i feel a bit let down by this as well, i didnt realise until i saw your post. wonder if she'll still be the face of ryvita....hope not
Reply:Don't get me wrong- Fern Britton is an amazing person-

If she want's to be ''lazy'' or is feeling self-consious about her body I think she has to do what she thinks is right. The fact that telling people it's down to exercise is so another stupid journalist story doesn't pop-up around surgery.

I personally don't know the woman, so I can't really judge on the situation, however I know if it's what she wanted, it's the best for all of her follower's.
Reply:I feel a bit let down by her lying, but not about what she had done. It has obviously improved both her health and happiness - I just think she should have been open about like some others (Sharon Osbourne for one) have been.
Reply:why can't people exercise more instead of just eating less? worked for me.
Reply:She hasn't let anybody down. It's her life and she can do what she wants with her body. We have no right at all to know anything about it. She is a wonderful presenter and the press are just disgusting.
Reply:She is bang out of order making people people believe that she'd lost it all walking the dog and eating well!!!!!she should be ashamed for making people think that it is that easy!
Reply:My views? Stop crying.
Reply:Poppy I feel your pain.... Yesterday I really didnt know how I would carry on living after I found out the shocking truth

Devastated dont even begin to describe how I feel at this 'news'
Reply:I agree with you, she let us all down so did Ann Diamond and all the ones who said no surgery for them. Cheats the lot of them

never mind dry your eyes and have a big star.
Reply:ye-cant-cry-anymore!!

-and-will-carry-on-doing-it!!
Reply:Never heard that but am really annoyed. She DID lie about her weight loss - no question. I was actually wishing I had the willpower to lose weight like her. Should have known there was something cos the weight came off far too quickly. Think Fern has just lost herself a helluva lot of fans - male AND female!

JAZZ TIGER: STOP GENERALISING! Not ALL fat people are lazy! There are medical conditions which cause obesity, not just being a couch potato or stuffing your gub full of food.
Reply:I´ve already started therapy to deal with it.
Reply:I'm with you girl....Where my tears come right now i just don't know...I must have shed a million litres of tears all because I've been duped....How she could lie like that i don't know, my life will never be the same......
Reply:There's a difference, surely, between lying, and choosing not to discuss your personal business with strangers and media?

Do you really think a gastric band is an easy option? I have known a lady who had it, and the depression from not being able to lead a normal, healthy life actually left her wishing she was still huge!

Anyone losing that amount of weight, in a healthy manner, all be it 'assisted', deserves encouragement!
Reply:I remember the young Fern and believe me she was quite a looker. What happened between then and now is pretty obvious so anything she does to improve herself is fine.
Reply:she and who else? Go on, catch a grip.... shes not

the only one to be having us on about this kind of

stuff!

Open your eyes to the world please.

Save your tears for the only things worth saving

them for, the real tragedies that happen!
Reply:I feel great I'm still a fat cow.
Reply:You definitely need to see your counsellor .

Filya I feel your suffering you should seek counselling also . Ask Poppy for the name of hers.
Reply:Blimey get a life! nobody's real anymore anyway, blame the Americans!
Reply:don't shed tears over such trivial matters.
Reply:I am so sorry for your pain. Must be terrible. Who is Fern Britton by the way?
Reply:Like most women in the uk exercise is a dirty word. You all just keep reading heat, watching Big brother and wishing you had jessica albas body but not doing f**k all about it.
Reply:Didn't she say that there are some things a girl wants to keep to herself? That should mean keeping things private.

Didn't know that meant going on TV and magazines telling downright lies.

Imagine all the people trying to do the same and feeling failures?

ps Who is she anyway?
Reply:Have you stopped crying yet..?? How stupid can you get, listening to all that rubbish on TV. Half of what anyone says on the box these days is rubbish and you should not be taken in by it all. Does it really matter whether she is fat or thin, as long as you are ok.
Reply:I am far more concerned about the people who have nothing in their stomachs....they are hungry or even starving.

Couldn't care less about celebs.

They are full of themselves.
Reply:I'm not crying, I'm seething! Why can't she have been honest. She's acted like some b----- Goddess on TV for months and in magazines like Woman's Own, letting us all believe she has done it 'the right way, via diet and exercise'. Huh,

Go eat your self into TV oblivion Miss Britton!
Reply:None of our business what the woman does with her money and time in order to loose weight.
Reply:She's just lazy. Like most fat people. Lying is just another problem she's got.
Reply:Its the first I've heard of it, I don't watch much TV and don't read the papers. Do you know if this is definitely true? I can't see Fern lying to that extent. Maybe she had a tummy tuck to rid herself of excess skin? I know tons of dieters would do that when they had lost lots of weight, if they could afford to.

ADDED: I've seen the story now - yes she has been decieving people by her omission that she hadn't just lost her weight through diet and exercise alone.

Fern is the girl, is that right?

Checked flannel shirt

freckles

Reply:Wear your hair in pigtails, and wear overalls. Then carry a small pink pig with you.

Can anyone help me identify a white leaved fern with red leaf edges?

a picture of this fern was seen in a magazine but never took note of the name and would like to get one so need to find out it's name and if possible to buy in the UK

Can anyone help me identify a white leaved fern with red leaf edges?
I looked through my gardening books and found 2 different types of ferns that you might be talking about.

1) Japanese Silver Fern: Spreading fronds with silver and maroon accents, 12 inches high. (This one looks white with pinky, purplish, redish accents)

2) Japanese Shield Fern: Dark green frons are maroon when young, 2 feet high.

It would help if you could copy and paste your picture of the plant in place of your avatar, just long enough for this question.

Good Luck!
Reply:it sounds like it could be a Japanese painted fern, if i saw a picture i might know better

Is Fern from Charlotte's Web a Brownie Girl Scout?

Dakota Fanning is a Girl Scout; I have no idea about the character of Fern.

Is Fern from Charlotte's Web a Brownie Girl Scout?
You may have a better response if you repost this in the Books %26amp; Authors category rather than genealogy...
Reply:There is nothing to indicate that in the book, but in the latest version, Dakota Fanning wears a Brownie sweater - you can see the trefoil in the picture below.

Why is my dicksonia tree fern only growing small fronds?

It may have dicktheria, which is I regret to say, is contagious.

Why is my dicksonia tree fern only growing small fronds?
What is dicksonia tree ,????.

A dove has made a nest of my hanging fern plant . . . ?

and I'm inclined to let it stay there. Is there any reason I shouldn't?

It usually just sits there, except when I water the plant and it flies off . . .

A dove has made a nest of my hanging fern plant . . . ?
just let her sit there and buy another one !

A dove making a nest anywhere on your property means a blessing on your family is about to come! I wonder what it is?!
Reply:Cool. Thank you. She's still there. Report It

Reply:That is so awesome. I had a dove do the same in a hanging flower pot last year. I continued to water it, but unfortunately, she abandoned the nest. It was hanging by my front door, so I think she was afraid of everyone passing by each day. I hope this doesn't happen to you. Please just leave the plant there. Maybe water it when she isn't there. You might scare her off.
Reply:I would leave it. Doves will lay eggs up to 6 times a year, but I don't know if they use the same nest every time. Meanwhile, here is a site that will show you how to build a birdhouse, of sorts, for doves. I actually built one a few days ago but it has yet to be inhabited.

http://www.50birds.com/MPDoveGable.htm
Reply:Birds return every year to the same place they nest, wait until the new eggs hatch then remove nest %26amp; posibly remove fern to a new area maybe an enclosed place like a patio
Reply:I had a dove do the same thing. I just left it be. It didn't harm my plant and it was really cool to watch it every day. It left after about a month.
Reply:sh!t stains on the porch
Reply:Enjoy watching it for now.

It will go when it is ready.

Won't be long but don't feed or water it.

If you think Fern Britton has hoodwinked you all?

what about Alan Hanson, Denise Van Outten and Lulu actually shop at Morrisons?

DO LEAVE OFF.

If you think Fern Britton has hoodwinked you all?
If people are stupid enough to believe what they see in adverts, then they deserve to be hoodwinked.
Reply:I agree with you. Im finding all the bad mouthing "hype" surrounding Fern Britton a little pathetic to be honest and I cant believe that it took centre page on the front of the newspaper today, leaving a tiny little square to put in the news of a child being stabbed to death!

So what if she had a gastric band fitted! So what if she didn't lose the weight by eating Ryvita and exercising! Does she actually say on the Ryvita adverts that she lost this weight by eating Ryvita? Its only a blo@dy advert for goodness sake!

If a model / actress loses tons of weight then people say it is amazing, the fact that she could be snorting coke, starving herself or making herself throw up to lose the weight is never mentioned is it?

What Fern has said / done is no major fraud or deception, with all that is going on in the world at the moment, it pales into insignificance doesn't it? Get over it people!
Reply:well she said that she dieted to get down to that weight and didn't as far as anyone can tell anyone that she did it by having a gastric band fitted to suppress her appetite, cheating i would say, and her advertising contract with Ryvita is well and truly in jeopardy if not over.

As to the others who seriously believes they actually do their own shopping let alone at Morrisons of all places, come on get real
Reply:yeah who gives a chuff, her husband said she had done it by eating less and exercising and that is true she has been eating less he just neglected to mention that she can only eat less because she is physically restricted to what her stomach can take. i still think she looks fab and at the end of the day she has had to put some hard work in too, a gastric band is not the miracle by itself.
Reply:couldnt care less about the adverts, she was bullshitting for months about diet and fitness when the whole time she had a gastric band fitted, so she was lying plain and simple, then again anyone who puts worth in anything the likes of her (phoney) has to say deserves to be treated like the morons they clearly are.
Reply:just goes to show what a sad world we live in .... when it matters more what a celebrity does than the fact that a young girl

was murdered by a perv.........???

Fern is no different to millions of celebs that have hidden things from us and WHY should we know.... they wouldnt be celebraties without hidden facts .... they dont tell us what position they favour most... and I really dont want to know any more about any such trash as dieting / liposuction / etcssssssssss

trouble is so many people live out there lives through these celebraties.... that is what is so 'sad'
Reply:Fern has done what many fat people have to do. She had the money and felt she had to change her appearance before she was too wide for the screen. Why the hell should be obliged to tell anyone of her treatment.
Reply:its a bit different tho isnt it? claiming you have lost weight to eating well and exercising when really it was through an operation, she delibrately tried to mislead people
Reply:I think it's pretty funny how upset people are getting about the whole thing

Seriously do some people not have better things to do than worry over how she lost the weight?
Reply:Ha ha or that Eva Longwotsername eats magnam ice cream, i think not, i bet chocolate hasn't passed her lips since she was 3...

Do you think she has a body double to do the eating for her???
Reply:I had better stop eating Ryvita - I will be a skeleton - if Fern is to go by...
Reply:i dont think it , lots of celebs do it, more important things in the world going on , couldnt care less.

Generally it's a rhizome, but some ferns have above-ground stolons.

Does anyone know the meaning of a fern plant? What it is symbolic of?

Koru is a Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) name for the fern frond which unfurls into the fern leaf. It's their symbol for new life, new beginnings, creation, growth, movement.

When giving flowers each has their own meaning, as red roses represent love, ferns represent sincerity, magic, fascination, confidence, shelter.

Does anyone know the meaning of a fern plant? What it is symbolic of?
Ferns symbolize leek harvest. Enjoy!
Reply:In Slavic folklore, ferns are believed to bloom once a year, during the Ivan Kupala night. Although it's exceedingly difficult to find, anyone who takes a look of a fern-flower will be happy and rich for the rest of his life. Similarly in Finland, the tradition holds that one who finds the seed of a fern in bloom on Midsummer night, will by the possession of it be able to travel under a glamour of invisibility and shall be guided to the locations where eternally blazing Will o' the wisps mark the spot of hidden treasure caches.

Who knows whats the difference between a fungi, a moss and a fern??

if you know it or ever find out, PLEASE tell me.... i'll be really grateful...

Who knows whats the difference between a fungi, a moss and a fern??
There are many differences.

1. a moss and fern are plants, fungi belong in their own kingdom (or it used to be).

2. Fungi do not photosynthesise. They "feed" like bacteria do (extracellular digestion), whereas moss and ferns do (are producers not consumers).

3. Fungi also contain chitin in their cell walls

4. moss and ferns are "primative plants" in that they do not have true leaves and roots.

5. Mosses need moisture and remain small for their entire lives (do not have efficent vascular system(

.6. Ferns are more advanced, in that their vascular tissue allows them to not rely on moisture so much (they can transport water in them).

7. The different life cycles of the plant the (haploid) gametophyte phase is the dominant phase in mosses, while the (diploid) sporophyte phase is dominant in ferns.

I am certain there are more, but I can't remember them
Reply:And don't forget Lichens

Lichens are symbiotic associations of a fungus with a green algae or cyanobacteria. A few lichens are known to contain yellow-green algae or, in one case, a brown alga.

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen
Reply:A fungi or fungas grows on old food, where water is sitting for a long time and sometimes on the bottom of feet which is called Tinea.

Fungi is mushrooms and toadstools.

Moss grows in damp places on rocks and on trees deer eat it.

A fern is a plant that also grows in damp places.

I hope I have answered your question.
Reply:A fungus is something that has to rely on other things for its nutrition. They cannot photosynthesize. They can be unicellular or multicellular. They do not have a vascular system and everything gets in and out through diffusion. They disseminate by spores.

A moss is capable of photosynthesizing. It does not have a vascular system. Mosses too must get everything through diffusion. They have fairly well developed eggs and sperm. The stage that you see most often is haploid (it is n and forms the eggs and sperm). The sporophyte generation (2n)is short lived.

A fern is a vascular plant. It photosynthesizes and has a vascular system. The major generation is the sporophyte and the gametophyte generation is short lived.
Reply:Fungi (singular fungus) are a kingdom of eukaryotic organisms. They are heterotrophic and digest their food externally, absorbing nutrient molecules into their cells. Yeasts, molds, and mushrooms are examples of fungi. The branch of biology involving the study of fungi is known as mycology.

The organisms of the fungal lineage include mushrooms, rusts, smuts, puffballs, truffles, morels, molds, and yeasts, as well as many less well-known organisms (Alexopoulos et al., 1996). About 70,000 species of fungi have been described; however, some estimates of total numbers suggest that 1.5 million species may exist.

Mosses

Mosses are small, soft plants that are typically 1–10 cm tall, or occasionally more. They commonly grow close together in clumps or mats in damp or shady locations. They do not have flowers or seeds, and their simple leaves cover the thin wiry stems. At certain times mosses produces spore capsules which may appear as beak-like capsules borne aloft on thin stalks.

More than 95% of moss species belong to the Bryopsida. Diversity in this group has been classified into 90 to 110 families and 11 to 16 orders. The Dicranales and Hypnales are the most diverse groups with 13 and 44 families, respectively.

Afern

A fern is any one of a group of about 20,000 species of plants classified in the phylum or division Pteridophyta, also known as Filicophyta. The group is also referred to as polypodiophyta, or polypodiopsida when treated as a subdivision of tracheophyta (vascular plants). The study of ferns is called pteridology; one who studies ferns is called a pteridologist. The term pteridophytes has traditionally been used to describe all seedless vascular plants so is synonymous with "ferns and fern allies". This can be confusing given that the fern phylum Pteridophyta is also sometimes referred to as pteridophytes.

What is the reproduction cycle of a Royal Fern?

Sexual reproduction begins within the sporangium, where hundreds of cells differentiate that will undergo meiosis. These cells are called spore mother cells. Sex in the royal fern begins in late May or early June with the formation of sporangia on developing leaves and the initiation of meiosis by the spore mother cells. The diploid chromosome number is 44 (in humans it is 46), and each spore mother cell, after meiosis, will yield 4 haploid spores, each with 22 chromosomes; each sporangium forms over 500 spores; each sporophyte forms thousands of sporangia.

By mid-June, every sexually mature royal fern is releasing hundreds of thousands of haploid spores into the surrounding air, at this time the air is thick with spores; a large royal fern population will release literally millions of single-celled spores within a period of a week! Unfortunately, each spore has a major design flaw, royal fern spores have a very limited life span; they die after 2 days! In contrast, other fern species form spores that remain viable for years.

My Asparagus Fern is turning yellow, any suggestions, QUICK!?

Asparagus ferns don't tolerate dry soil or low light very well. Once some of the needles or stems yellow, they stay yellow even after you have corrected the problem.

Water your Asparagus fern as soon as the surface of the soil feels very dry. That will probably prevent any further yellowing. Remove all needles and stems that are already yellow.

Your fern should be right in front of a sunny window. It does not need sun shining directly on it all day, but a few hours of direct sun are important.

Fertilizer will not help and fertilizer sticks can actually damage roots as they concentrate the minerals in hot spots where they are inserted.

My Asparagus Fern is turning yellow, any suggestions, QUICK!?
Agreed, first thought is overwatering, but also underwatering and spider mites. Could it have sunburned?

Try repotting and sniffing the soil when it's out of the pot, stinky soil indicates drowned and dead roots.

If spider mites, you might see tiny webbing within the foliage, but more likely the plant will feel "gritty." Taking the plant to the sink or shower daily and giving the foliage a good bath will help break spider mite life cycle.
Reply:sounds like too much water
Reply:No offense at all, but here in Florida, I yank them out of the ground. They are weeds and hurt when they insist themselves into skin.

They also consume other plant life they seem to attach to.

Potted,,for whatever reason you choose to keep one, I suggest this.

Too much or too little, water. Sunlight, nourishment. root bound.

Where can i read where the red fern grows online for free?

The author, Wilson Rawls, only died in 1984, so his book will still be protected by international copyright for about another 53 years. You can't legally read it online for free.

You might find in illegally on Limewire, but there are many problems with Limewire. One is that the files you find there may contain viruses. If you leave a copyrighted file in your own folder for others to copy, you'll be exposing yourself to lawsuit liabilities in the tens of thousands of dollars. And downloading the file to read for free would be stealing.

One possible exception: Sometimes it is possible to get free copies of e-books through your library. Check with your librarian if they can get this title for you. The library will have paid for the rights, so you won't be doing anything wrong.

Where the red fern grows PLZ HELP?

I hate that book sooooo much i call it where the red fern dies!!

Can you give me some information to catch up on my notes cuz i really dont get it. If you could give me some summary/notes from the part where Rubin or Rainie (i don't know which one dies) gets killed- to the part in the contest where there is a storm and like some where "little ann" almost dies and falls into freezing cold water.

Yeah well I can never concentrate when im sopposed to be readin cuz everyone talks %26amp; I just can't focus because all i wanna do is have fun but from now on I'm gonna focus %26amp; ignore 'em because i've gotta do my work.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR ANSWERING!!!!!!

I've learned my lesson.

Where the red fern grows PLZ HELP?
First of all, the best way to understand a book is to not give it bad judgment. Appreciate the book a little more and it will be easier. Even if you don't like it, try to at least get into it. Relying on notes is going to put you in a sinkhole.

I have not read that book in over 6 years, but try www.pinkmonkey.com
Reply:Okay here is what happens.

And then...

Has anyone read "Where The Red Fern Grows?"?

I found the ending depressing, it had me wanting to read more though, and there were many parts of the book where i had doubt if Little Anne and Old Dan would stay alive. I am still upset about how it ended. What are your thoughts?

Has anyone read "Where The Red Fern Grows?"?
It's been probably close to twenty years since I last read that book, and I still remember the ending down to the last detail because it was just so brutally sad. It seemed like it was sort of piling the punishment just to be tragic. Just the protagonist accidentally killing someone *or* losing his dogs would have been more than enough on its own.

But then, I suppose that's the sign of a really good book, if it makes that lasting an impression.
Reply:We had to read that in the 4th grade and I cried so hard. It was bad.

Which plant is easier to take care of: Ficus Bush / Decorative Fern / Foliage Planters & Dish Gardens??

I'm getting somebody at work a "get well" plant cause the can't do the smell of flowers. Which one of the above plants are easier to take care of??

Reason I'm asking is that I like these the most....the flower shop also only had these three on there website.

Which plant is easier to take care of: Ficus Bush / Decorative Fern / Foliage Planters %26amp; Dish Gardens??
If you are not having them delivered, stop in Lowe's or Home depot and pick up a Pothos. Very easy keeper AND does well indoors in low light which works for a person who is ill.

Much less expensive than florists too.

Ferns and Ficus need to be by a window.
Reply:I vote for ficus
Reply:Ficus Bush in the neighbors year is about thirty feet tall and we have to cut branches off twice a year, it grows really really fast

good luck

Anyone know how to care for a peacock fern aquarium plant? Like what it needs in terms of light, maintance?

Peacock Fern is a terrestrial plant that Petco and Petsmart have begun selling. The only way to care for it in an aquarium is to take out all of the water so it doesn't drown or rot. If you leave it in water, it WILL die. Java Fern would be a much better, aquatic option.

WTH is a Peacock Fern? The Latin name is the only way you can identify a plant, and then you can find the information for your self.

How much water do you give a potted fern?

It depends on the size of container and the type of fern. I have 3 boston ferns, one is in a gallon and the other two are in 5 gallon containers. I water every other day, 1/2 - 1/3 cup for the 1 gallon and 2/3 - 1 cup for the gallons. I keep the soil moist and never let it completely dry out.

How much water do you give a potted fern?
depending on the size and pot ferns do not like to be so so wet or so so dry i suggest if you have your fern in a very sunny area you place your finger all the way into the soil to determine if it needs water do not water if the top is dry there maybe wet soil on the bottom
Reply:Most ferns like damp shady places, so just make sure they don't dry out.
Reply:keep the soil moist, dont let it dry

here in sunny Queensland Asparagus Fern is a weed, grows in full sun at temperatures well in excess of 110 F: our summer full exposed temperature can reach over 50 C (that's 122 F to you) and thrives, can't kill the rotten stuff

Fern to celius what is the diffrence?

i need to know if it 65 0F then what is it celius and if it is75 0F then what is it celius this math is getting really hard for me.

Fern to celius what is the diffrence?
http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperat...
Reply:it's very easy to convert from Fahrenheit to Celcius. And I will demonstrate using the two Fahrenheit temperatures you've given.

1.. take your answer (in Fahrenheit) and subtract 32.

65-32=33, 75-32=43

2... divide your answer by 1.8

33/1.8 = 18.3, 43/1.8= 23.9

so 65 degrees F = 18.3 degrees celcius

and 75 degrees F = 23.9 degrees celcius

see that was easy no stress

Is a rabbit's foot fern toxic to birds?

you can do a search on google just ask for Toxic plants to birds there is a website that list the toxic plants and trees and shrubs

Is Matt Millen more intelligent than an average fern?

Another year another retarded Lions draft. Why did they choose yet another WR when they're in such desperate need of a QB capable of throwing the ball to the last umpteen overpriced WRs they have chosen. IMO, Brady Quinn was the man to pick and that syphillitic halfwit Millen screwed it up yet again.

Is Matt Millen more intelligent than an average fern?
Yes, it is official...Thank you for not making me post this question...It is official...The Detroit Lions are the most boneheaded team in the history of the NFL...Calvin Johnson...Skills...Too bad he won't see the ball, because there is nobody to get it to him...

FIRE MATT MILLEN NOW...W. CLAY FORD, ARE YOU LISTENING?
Reply:you may be upset, but there would be way more people upset if they would have passed on Calvin Johnson. He's a far better prospect than any of the past wr daft picks. But, you did miss out on Joe thomas.

as a bears fan, I'm a teeny bit more frieghtened about you, but not really.
Reply:No way. The fern comes in second. A box of rocks is first and Millen is a distant forty seventh.
Reply:This was the right pick with the new offensive coordinator.

The last time Mike Martz drafted a wide receiver He led them to the super bowl and won it. Maybe Mike Martz can do that with Calvin Johnson
Reply:Yeah, but the ferns are catching up! Don't know why they keep thinking they need wide receivers. There are a lot of areas that need improvement.
Reply:No

FIRE MILLEN

But Johnson was the right pick.

Does anyone know the meaning of a fern plant? What it is symbolic of?

Apparently the flag of New Zealand sports a silver fern. There's an interesting history of it here: http://www.nzflag.com/silverfern.cfm . And some controversy over the flag here: http://www.nzflag.com/press_050205southl... .

Because ferns are extremely hardy and reproduce using spores (they do not require either seeds or outside pollination to reproduce), it seems they have become symbols of independence, perseverance, autonomy, endurance, defiance in the face of oppression, and resourcefulness.

There are other different and rather unrelated fern symbolisms in different contexts. Apparently in the wedding bouquet they signal "fascination"; in the Victorian graveyard, they signalled "sincerity." Ferns aren't very "fascinating" to me, but whatever.

Ik foudn it a really dramatic book and please add your own opinion on the book and most detailed answer receives 10 points. I found it soo sad and i can't get over it

Who has read "Where the red fern grows?
I loved that book! I found it very intruiging and hard to put down. Not to mention well written!

I agree that it was very sad=( Death is awful because it can't be taken back.

On a lighter note, I loved the characters. I thought that you really got to know them and their personality. I also thought that the book was very unpredictable, but not in a bad way! I mean that it wasn't one of those boring books that you could easily predict what would happen! And it definately was a pretty dramatic book.

Despite some sadness, that "Where the Red Fern Grows" is definately one of my favorite books! A true classic=)

EDIT: I've seen the movie as well, but it's not as good as the book!
Reply:hmm i throught it was dramatic too especially near the middle to end...it kind of started stupidly lol.i havent read it since like 6th grade or so (im in my 2nd semster at college now) but it is very good.

Why are all the leaves falling off my Boston fern?

It could be it's way too dry. Ferns need a lot of humidity. Try putting it in your bathroom and turning a hot shower on and letting it steam once or twice a week.(Dont let the water hit the fern, just set it in the bathroom near the shower or in the back of the tub) If at all possible buy a humidifier for it..this will add more moisture to your air. During the winter, the air gets very dry indoors...too dry for certain plants. Misting the leaves lightly a few times a week is also good for them.

Good luck!

Why are all the leaves falling off my Boston fern?
Could be many reasons. Exposed to too much sun? Are the leaves burned too? Has it been exposed to cold temperatures? The leaves can be burned from the cold too. How often do you water it? Maybe it's too dry. If none of these suggestions could be the problem..maybe it has scale. Look on the under side of the fronds and see if there is a scaly looking substance. If so you will need a pesticide. If this still isn't the solution, then you may want to cut back your fern. If you look in the bottom of your fern, where the plant actually comes out of the soil you will see little sprouts/new growth. It will look like little curled up kinda hairy little green growths. You can actually cut your fern all the way back leaving only the new growth and it will all grow back in time. Be sure you are fertilizing it as well, probably twice a week if you cut back. Good growing.
Reply:That sounds like the fern has gone through some shock, and it is now shedding it's leaves. Maybe it was exposed to some cold weather for a little too long.

I have an indoor fern. It's leave are touching the ground. Can I trim it? Or will it harm the plant?

Not as much as manhandling it during the trim. The meristematic(growth point) area of a fern is on the edges of the leaves. so wherever it touches might brown or die back, but it sounds like you are doing something right.

I have an indoor fern. It's leave are touching the ground. Can I trim it? Or will it harm the plant?
Most ferns can be safely trimmed, but why not re-pot it into a larger pot?

CAn someone give an example of a Monocot, dicot, fern, or conifer??

The TV weather presenters use a word ("Fern, ferd,) (?) winds?

This is the wind that comes over the mountains and hits the lee area. This causes adverse weather patterns. What is the word and where does it come from?

The TV weather presenters use a word ("Fern, ferd,) (?) winds?
I think they were saying "Foehn" wind.

From wiki:

"A foehn wind or föhn wind is a type of dry downslope wind which occurs in the lee of a mountain range. It is a rain shadow wind which results from the subsequent adiabatic warming of air which has dropped most of its moisture on windward slopes (see orographic lift). As a consequence of the different adiabatic rates of moist and dry air, the air on the leeward slopes becomes warmer than equivalent elevations on the windward slopes. Föhn winds can raise temperatures by as much as 30°C (54°F) in just a matter of hours..."

Note: Use of the term implies that not only is the wind heating by downslope compression, heat is also added to the air from heat released from cloud condensation that is happening on the windward side. So the temp. on the leeward side is warmer because of those clouds than it would be if the wind were moving over the mountain and there were no clouds at all.

In southern California in the winter there are sometimes clouds banked up on the windward (north slopes) of the Tehachapis. When there is a wind blowing out of the north, the result can be temps in the 70s or 80s in L.A. while it's only in the 50s at Bakersfield, even though they are at similar elevations.
Reply:i think it's the foehn wind. It could be German from Föhn or Latin from favonius.
Reply:Foehn. I think it's German. There are similar winds all over the world with different names.

Fern((indoor plant)) ((or it might be spelt "furn"))?

how offten should i water it? and i want it bigger so do they grow fast? any tips?

Fern((indoor plant)) ((or it might be spelt "furn"))?
The first thing is: WHAT kind of FERN do you have?? Some will grow faster than others, some may want to be outdoors! Some will get huge (Tree ferns) and others will stay small. Some need more sunlight than others!

The basics are: water, light and food (fertilizer).

Ferns generally like to stay moist, but not soaking wet. Some like to have their leaves sprinkled. I often put my ferns in the shower on a light spray for a few minutes. Then I leave them in the shower to drain for the rest of the day. They love the humidity in the shower!

Light varies widely by type of fern (you need to do some more research!).

For fertilizer, most ferns like a light (diluted) water soluble food. You could put this into the water for the plant. Don't use too much or you will "burn" the plant.

Indoor ferns that get their needs met can live for a long, long time!

Good Luck!!
Reply:Same as REnate, except:

Let the soil get dry before you water again.

Also, you can water with a liquid fertilizer every time you water. Or apply a time released fertilizer to your fern's soil.
Reply:Once a week be sure the potting soil dries out after you water it. Fertilize once a month

Reply:Hi, I soak my in the tub or a bucket about every two weeks. Leave it in a couple of hours till it soaks up as much water as it needs. Then let it drain, and return it to it's spot. I use Thrive brand fertilizer, and worm castings.

How can i control mould of fungus in a walking fern terrarium?
You just need to balance humidity, ventilation and teperature. Also, as long as the fungus is not damaging anything or overtaking the tank, it may not be a real problem.

Where may i find a supplier of rabbits foot fern?

The only place I've seen Rabbit's Foot for sale online at a reasonable retail price is at http://www.excitinggardens.com/detail.as...

I haven't bought from them so I can't speak to quality and/or customer service.

The latin name for the Rabbit's Foot Fern is Davallia fejeensis but there is also a similar (a bit smaller) fern sometimes called Hare's foot fern which falls under the latin name Humata trermanii. The hare's foot is usually the one available at home/hardware stores like Lowe's or Home Depot.

Looking for name of tree with fern-like leaves and lavender flowers. leaves look like chinese silk tree?

The tree you are looking for is the Jacaranda mimosifolia.

Better know by those who own one as the Mess-o-randa. A beautiful large street tree when seen in full bloom at this time of the year. So beautiful that thousands run to the nursery each year because they have to have one in their yard. Most will regret planting it. The better idea is to get your neighbor to put one in so you can enjoy it's beauty without all it's problems. It is not a friendly tree.

Most will give you major root problems as it matures. Pushing up sidewalks, driveways and stuffing your sewers and outside plumbing with invaiding roots. Ever wonder how it got it's nick name? Mess-o-randa.

The tree puts out more litter during the year the any other tree on our planet. At least it seems that way to anyone who has one in their yard. It has no off season of mess. It starts off right about now with it's daily raining of those pretty lavender blue flowers. I San Diego we call it the the blue mulch of summer. It will cover the area under and around the tree with enough flower that requires almost daily raking. If allowed on the ground for more then a few days it will start to act as a thick mulch and will start to kill off the lawn. The blue mulch will continure well into mid july. just as you think the worst is over it starts dropping thousands of it's tiny fern like leaves. You'll need to keep up with them and a weekly basis until about mid september when they really start to fall. They'll need almost daily attention unil thanksgiving. That's when the tiny leaves stop falling and the start of the twig drip. There were about 200 tiny leaves on every 6 - 7 inch twig and about 150 twigs per 12 - 18 inch stem. The twig drop keeps you busy till just after new years. that's when the long stems begin to fall. you get the stems thru april to about mid may. thats when she starts to bloom and the blue mulch starts all over again.

The Mess-o-randa is a nightmare better left for someone with no life except that a a full time cleanup person. Talk to those who have one. Or drive around and see for yourself. You really don't want that tree!

It depends on size and type of fern you get. Of cource fancy types will run you more money.

If you have alot of chainpetstores this is my break down anaylist of them.

Try looking at petco, most of them dont really care about plants, and are listed as planted or lose and the price is based on that. I bought a mother sword for 3.99. So you might be able to find some ferns there. My petco now, has alot of java ferns are 2.99 and big ones.

If you go to petsmart than they base price on plant. i beleive around me, the java fern is 3.99

Also check online. THE SECRET is look at e-bay. At first i thought i wouldnt be able to find fish stuff there, but i was surprised. Type in "live aquarium plants" and you will find all kinds at cheap prices. java moss and java ferns.

Is "where the red fern grows" a true story?

No - some MIGHT have been pulled from the author's childhood:

Wilson Rawls (author) was born in the Ozark Mountains, which spread out over eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas, on September 24, 1913. Like his character Billy, Rawls spent a lot of time during his childhood exploring the nearby hills, accompanied by his hound. He loved to tell hound stories, even though he did not read a proper book until he was in high school. When he grew up, it was only natural for him to write novels.

What is the figurative language of where the red fern grows?

What is the figurative language of where the red fern grows?
wow i love that book, is that with big dan and little anne? if thats the right book, i loved that book.

the climax might be when the dogs die and such because a climax is the most exciting part of the story. static characters stay the same throughout a story and dynamic charaters change throughout the story.

figurative language are all the similes, metaphors, and all of those kinds of things. i hope that helps!

What role does the grandpa have in Where The Red Fern Grows by wilson rawls?
Grandfather - Billy's grandfather runs a general store and a small mill. His store is a place where coon hunters gather to talk about hunting. He is full of imagination, and gets Billy into a lot of adventures.

Has anyone read the book where the red fern grows?

If anyone has read the book could you tell me what the notes should be for chapters 7 through 11 i need them for school and forgot the book at home

Has anyone read the book where the red fern grows?
Now Billy wants to start training his dogs. He needs a raccoon hide. He goes to his grandfather for help. His grandfather shows him how to make a trap that lures a coon into reaching for a bright shiny object. When the coon lifts his paw out of the hole with the shiny object, it gets stuck on some angled nails. Billy tries this, but for days he doesn't catch a coon. His papa reassures him, saying he just has to wait for his scent to wear off the traps. Finally, a coon is caught, and father and son kill it together.

Using the hide, Billy trains his hounds. He drags the coon over a certain path, and then the hounds have to track the hide by smelling its scent. By the time raccoon season starts in the fall, they are ready. On the first night, his dogs tree a coon in the biggest tree imaginable. Billy has always admired the "big tree" of the bottoms; it is gigantic, so he decides he won't be able to cut it down. But when they see his intent, his dogs pout. He becomes determined to cut it down, because he told his dogs that if they could tree a coon he would take care of the rest. His dogs are counting on him. His father finds him in the morning, and has food brought to him. That evening, his grandfather shows him how to make a scarecrow, to keep the coon in the tree so he can go home and eat dinner.

The next morning, he finds that Old Dan has been guarding the tree all night long. He is very proud of him but resents Little Ann until he sees two little impressions in the leaves, and realizes that they took turns guarding the tree over the night. His heart swells. Later in the day, he gets blisters. He is heartbroken, because he thinks he will have to stop. He says a prayer, however, and then the wind finally pushes the tree down. His dogs kill the raccoon, and they proudly head for home. When he gets home, he asks his papa if they think God answered his prayer and pushed over the tree with the wind.

Commentary

Billy trains his dogs very carefully. He teaches them all kinds of tricks. He goes to his grandfather's store and learns tricks from other coon hunters who gather there. He is able to devote a great deal of time to training them, and they are very young when he begins to teach them. In part, this explains why the dogs are such good hunters by the end of the novel.

On the other hand, the dogs are simply remarkable. The way they take turns guarding the tree is one of the first signs in the novel of how well they communicate and work as a team. The two hounds seem to care deeply for each other. Also, they seem incredibly determined to "tree" the coon and to kill it. When Billy decides he can't cut down the big sycamore, they whine. This is a sign of a good hunting dog. A good hunting dog is always eager to hunt and is never satisfied until the hunt has reached its successful conclusion.

Although they do not figure prominently in the main adventures of the novel, Billy's mama and sisters play an important role. They worry about Billy when he goes hunting and they cringe at violence. This contrasts with Billy's quiet bravery. Of course, it might also be called sexist. It reinforces stereotypes; but at the same time, it is probably an accurate reflection of gender roles as they were practiced in the time and place of the novel, and it certainly makes Billy seem more heroic.

Billy's mama makes him a coonskin cap out of his first hide. He goes coon hunting almost every night. His coons become smarter and smarter. His grandfather says that coonskin prices are going up, because there is a fad for coonskin coats in the New England states. Meanwhile, Billy's papa relieves him of his chores, so Billy can hunt all he wants. Billy goes to his grandfather's store and sells his skins and gives the money to his father.

Sometimes, coons try to trick his dogs and Old Dan gets into trouble. One night, as they are hunting, Billy loses track of his dogs. Finally, Little Ann comes to him, looking worried. She whines, and sniffs at an embankment. Billy is bewildered, until he realizes that she is sniffing at a small muskrat hole. He bends down, and can hear Old Dan inside. He has to run home to get a shovel to dig the muddy dog out.

Another night, Billy finds Old Dan has climbed a tree. The skunk is higher up in the ground, and Little Ann is barking down below. Billy sees that his dog climbed up through a hollow in the trunk. He climbs up and pushes the dog down, but Old Dan immediately climbs back up. Billy again has to force him to go down and then jump down and hold him.

One night, Little Ann gets into trouble. The first snow has come, and Billy knows that coons sometimes play deadly tricks on hounds in snow and ice. When he no longer hears the bark of Little Ann, his blood freezes. He finds her way out on the river. She has fallen through the ice and is barely hanging on to some ice. Billy thinks it is hopeless. He sits down and prays for a miracle. Then his lantern, which he pushed out onto the ice with a stick, makes a noise. Its handle has fallen down. Billy realizes he can curve the lantern handle into a hook and fish Little Ann out of the river with a long stick. He saves her. When he goes home, he thinks about the lantern handle that fell as he prayed. He asks his mother if all prayers are answered. She thinks it is very sweet that he has asked such a question.

Commentary

This section of the novel establishes Billy's coon hunting routine. Although only exceptional hunts where one of the hounds is almost hurt are discussed, we learn about how the process usually works. We see how Billy learns to follow the chase with his ears, understanding what is happening even if he can't see it. We see how his dogs have become more experienced. When we learn that he is in the habit of going to the store and swapping stories with other coon-hunters, we are not surprised. When we learn that his hounds are getting reputations for being skilled hunting dogs, we are not surprised. We have seen evidence of their skill in action.

The theme of religion continues. Billy said a prayer when he wanted dogs, and he got them. He said a prayer when he got blisters on his hands and thought he could never chop down the big sycamore tree, but then the wind blew it over. And when Little Ann was about to freeze to death, the lantern handle clanged down while he was praying for a miracle, giving him the idea to make a hook. Later he lets the lantern sit in his room, handle up, but the handle never falls down as it did when he was praying. The little boy becomes convinced that his prayers are being answered.

The tips on my boston fern are turning brown. Lighting is good. Not sure what the problem is. Suggestions?

Maybe it's getting too much light. I had a Boston Fern that got too much light outside and died. They do best with filtered light when they are outdoors.

Although the fern may appear totally dead due to frost, it will re-emerge in the spring. In general, the Boston Fern likes damp, but not soggy soil that is rich in nutrients. Of the common cultivated ferns, the Boston Fern is the most tolerant to drought. The fern thrives best in humid conditions, so when grown as a house plant it becomes necessary to mist the plant when relative humidity falls below around 80%. Although outdoors this plant prefers partial shade or full shade, inside it grows best in bright filtered light.

The tips on my boston fern are turning brown. Lighting is good. Not sure what the problem is. Suggestions?
Turn it over. Healthy roots are white. Is it root bound? It might need a bigger conttainer.
Reply:Over watering could be the problem. Keep moist but not soaking wet. Also keep the plant out of drafts. I found that grouping more than one plant together helped a lot . 3 or 4 plants arranged in a display seemed to work best. When I had only 1 plant , it seemed to always die. I think the grouping helped keep the humidity higher. You might try misting the plant also. Good luck.
Reply:humidity(dry air causes plant leaf tips to turn brown or it could be too much fertilizer. the salt buildup from the fertilizer will harm plants. To raise humidity mist several times or add a humidifier to room with plants.
Reply:May be a root problem. Perhaps put him in a bigger pot and give some plant food.

Mist him and be sure he dries out completely between waterings
Reply:I would say over waerting, let it dry out a bit and mist it, I hope this helps.

I like the name Fern for a baby girl, what does anyone else think of this name? What other names do you like?
I like Fern. I think it's a super sweet name. And it shouldn't be too hard to grow into. I can picture both a young child and an older women named Fern.

Eden will be my daughter's name when she comes in Sep.

I like unusual names as well... but I'm not a big fan of normal names spelled differently. I like simple words that just aren't used for names very often. Or older names that aren't "in".

Aspahrgus fern is dying?

Aspahrgus fern is dying?
As you can see on the attached link, there are different types of asparagus fern. Yours is probably in the second picture. There are care instructions here.

http://home.howstuffworks.com/asparagus-...
Reply:I found a decent comment site on they below. It says to watch for slugs, mites, and aphids and that leaf spots and rots may occur - perhaps it stays too wet or was over-mulched and now sits too tow. The insects are also possible, so check for aphids and mites at the base or the leaves. The misting might be too much with your present humidity and it could contribute to leaf molds in certain climates - even if it is essential in the driest times of year.
Reply:Overwatering would be my guess. Twice a week seems like too much for a plant that is in low light.

My Maybebaby tells me how high oestrogen levels are through a fern like pattern when testing saliva?

When women have a period the oestrogen levels are low however looking at the Maybebaby its indicating they are high and the fern is appearing. Could this to do with lunar cycles. I have read that you can fall pregnant at any time of the month. I am a bit confused. rang up the product team and they did not know. For those out there not sure what a Maybebaby is - its a mini microscope that tests saliva to asertain whether the women is ovalating and the best time to have intercourse. dots and pebbles is non fertile time, wispy ferns and dots is coming into ovalation and ferns is high levels of oestrogen and ovalating.

My Maybebaby tells me how high oestrogen levels are through a fern like pattern when testing saliva?
Hi,

You can only get pregnant during a 12-24 hours period each month. This is the time you ovulate. Ovulation occurs around the middle of your cycle. Once released your egg remains viable for fertilisation for just 12-24 hours.

It is not recommended that you use saliva microscope tests in iscolation from your body's other fertility signs. A good way of cross checking your maybebaby results is to take your temperaure every morning when you wake up. It will rise slightly when you ovulate and will remain slightly higher until your next period. You can also keep an eye on your mucus. It will become stretchy like egg white as you approach ovulation. Sperm can survive for a max. of 5 days in this most fertile type of mucus.

Lunar cycles can effect fertility, but on in the modern western world! Many women in Africa find that there cycles follow a lunar pattern. In our societies however we have far too much artificial light for your cycles to be effected.

You can chart your cycles on line with FertilityFreind.com. The Couple to Couple League also have a great home study course which I took and can highly recommend. If you are married then the charity LIFE UK runs a fertility awareness programme which would be open to you.

What insect could be eating my ostrich fern?

there are small holes throughout the leaves

What insect could be eating my ostrich fern?
They are known as ostrich fern fleas. If you don't get some sort of spray to combat them your fern will be no more. Go to your local plant shop for advice look for your nearest botinest and He/she will tell what sort of spray to use...

How can you propagate a stag horn fern?

According to the sites I checked, propagating stag horn ferns is beyond home gardeners. They grow from spores.

You could perhaps get new plants in the way the best site I found recommends:

"Propagation is accomplished by spores and is not practical in the home. Rarely will a staghorn fern grown in the home produce spores, and if spores are available, germinating them is slow and difficult. Older plants may, however, develop new growing points to the side of the original. If this occurs, these shoots can be carefully removed and established on their own piece of bark. This is accomplished by first wrapping the roots in damp sphagnum and then tying the root ball tightly to the bark with cotton string. Eventually the roots and sterile frond will grip the bark and support the plant."

Where the Red fern grows theme?

im doing an essay for where the red fern grows about the theme and i got love beyond loyalty but i got stuck and i don't know what to include in it.

Where the Red fern grows theme?
Another theme could be loss you could tie in to the love theme that the consequence of loving somethings is losing it. Also it is a coming of age story. You could talk about how the boy (I can't remember his name) by losing Ann and Dan was forced to grow up. I know Sparknotes should have that particular book, you should check out the website and see if they have more themes and ideas.

We live in southern california and have asparagus crops (3 1/2 years growing) - when do we cut the fern?

Cut them back when they begin to wilt and dry out, not before. They're putting a lot of energy into your first real crop!
