What kind of care does a Boston Fern require?

What do I need to do to keep a Boston Fern happy. Its a Christmas gift and I don't know room temp, water schedule, fertilization, in short I know nothing about them. Please help!

What kind of care does a Boston Fern require?
Indirect or bright diffused light is best. They don't like full sun.

Moderately moist soil is preferred. Water thoroughly when just the soil surface is dry to the touch. Make sure your plants have good drainage. During active growth, these plants should be watered on a regular basis in order for the soil to remain moist. Try to use water that doesn't contains harmful chlorine. Or let your tap water set out overnight before using it for watering.

The Boston fern is easy to grow, but likes high humidity. Bright, dry conditions will cause yellowing and browning of the fronds. Misting a Boston fern from time to time is a good idea.

Try to keep the temperature in the range of 65-72 degrees.

Here's a nice Q %26amp; A site on Boston Ferns:

During its growing season use a general fertilizer (20-20-20-, 10-10-10). Do not fertilize in the winter months. Resume when spring arrives. Boston ferns are tropical and really tolerate temperatures of 50 degrees and not much below that.

Good Luck! Hope this is helpful.
Reply:You're welcome! If you don't want to fuss with misting, you can use a humidifier in your room or put you plant on a pebble tray. Just don't let the plant sit in water, or the roots will rot.

Good Luck! Happy New Year!!! Report It
